Sew & Sew #004: The Alan Dart Desperate Dan

Desperate Dan was very easy to make up.  the only taxing thing about him was the embroidery of the face.

You can tell that this was one of Alan’s earlier designs, the doll itself is very basic, to be honest, I found that it was like making up an old 80’s Jill Gammon toy.

As there is no shaping in the back seam.  This make up showed a great example of how mattress  stitch is a wonder when achieving an invisible seam.

For those of you who would like to use mattress stitch on your next project I have found this fantastic demonstration on YouTube:

So Desperate Dan is now finished, Daddy Rivett has his camera at the ready, pictures will be on there way soon.

Sew & Sew #003: The Debi Birkin Sack of Mice Tea Cosy

Little Mouse heads are everywhere and the common phrase that is filtering the air of our flat is, “Mouse Bum”,  highly amusing Daddy Rivett.

Not too bad for making up this time, however, attention to detail is hard running, as usual.  I am sculpting each mouse with the embroidery needle, which  is putting a smile on everyones face.  They do look like Sylvanian Mice rather than the illustration and I have adapted the patterns a little using twisted cord for tails and sculpting with Fray Check.

I had to use glass eyes on this project, they are fiddly but worth it, I can’t wait for you to see the pictures.  Daddy Rivett says this is my best project to date.  Wait till I start on the Brambly Hedge Mice.

Keep Knitting,

Sew & Sew #002: The Shortstuff411 R2D2 Beanie

Making upand finishing off is not my favourite of jobs as you know, this one is no exception.

I love intarsia however, I do not like having to sew up all the loose threads from the weave and there were a lot of loose threads.

As crown was knitted on double point needles there isn’t much of a seam to sew, what a blessing.  As with all my intarsia projects, when making up I finish the ends with fray check to stop the sewn ends from unraveling.

Nearly there, about an hour’s work left and then Daddy Rivett will take  photos for the site.

Happy Knitting,

Sew & Sew #001: The Debi Birkin Royal Garden Party Tea & Egg Cosy Set

I finally climbed I to bed at 05:00 this morning,  as I had a deadline to finish the tea cosy.  Apparently there is a wedding today and there is this theme.

Ok it was my own fault, I even did housework to avoid painstakingly sewing and knitting those little jewels. Not my favourite thing, making up. Why, because I am a perfectionist and, when it comes to getting my work just right, nothing will get in my way, even sleep.

The Birds were singing their sweet dawn chorus and blurry eyed families were adorning the milk train with chattering excited little girls creating grand illusions of  being the first glimpse of the soon to be princess.

Daddy Rivett is taking pictures of the project as we speak, so a post will be up tonight,

All this effort, it did get me thinking. Is it just me, or are there any more people out there who work throughout the night just to get a craft project finished? Or like me, do you find that you are more productive in the wee small hours?

Happy knitting,
